- Con todo, porfa = With everything, please The phrase that makes every taquero relax. When they ask what you want on your taco — salsa, cebolla, cilantro, limón — instead of fumbling through each topping, you say con todo and they know: give me everything you have. Porfa is short for por favor (please), but in this context it's less formal, more natural. Con todo porfa together sounds local in a way that con todo por favor doesn't.
- Sin cebolla = Without onion The most common modification at any CDMX taco stand. The pattern sin + [topping] works for everything: sin cilantro, sin chile, sin salsa verde, sin aguacate. Say it right after con todo if you want everything except the onion — the taquero will adjust. You can stack them: sin cebolla, sin cilantro.
- ¿Pica mucho? = Is it very spicy? Ask about the salsa roja before you pour it. The honest answer is almost always yes — it's just a matter of degree. If they say un poquito, that still means yes. - Para llevar = To go The default at street stands — they wrap it in foil and you're done. If you want to eat right there, say para aquí (for here). Some taqueros will ask you directly: ¿para llevar o para aquí? But if they don't, saying para llevar upfront saves the extra step.
- ¿Cuánto es? = How much is it? There's no posted menu, no price card, usually no receipt. You eat, and then you ask. They'll give you the total verbally — tres por veinte (three for twenty) or algo así. Have cash ready, because street stands rarely take cards, and those that do often have a minimum.
