Rico is the one the dictionary gets wrong

A dictionary will tell you rico means rich, or tasty. Applied to food it does. Applied to a person, estás bien rico is unambiguously sexual and there is no gentle reading of it. It is a real phrase that real people use, but it sits at one end of a scale, and learners tend to arrive there by accident.

The scale itself is clear enough once you can see it. Te ves muy bien is safe with almost anyone. Qué guapo and qué lindo are warm and public - you can say them to a friend. Estás muy guapo is direct interest. Papacito and mamacita are playful and heavy at the same time, fine between people already flirting and jarring from a stranger. La neta sí me gustas is a confession, not a compliment.

Two rules make the whole thing safer. Comment on style, effort or energy rather than bodies - me gusta tu estilo does more work than anything anatomical. And notice that most Mexican flirting has a joke somewhere inside it. The lines that land are rarely the ones that sound like lines.
