Google 4.7 stars from 358 reviews, as we read it on Jun 7, 2026. That is Google's number and Google's reviewers, not ours — see the listing ↗
LGBTQ+ Google lists this school as LGBTQ+ friendly and a transgender safespace. Those are attributes on the school's own Google listing, not something we verified in the room - but they are the school's own public statement about who is welcome, which is worth more than nothing and less than a visit.
Our take
L&C runs more different programs than any other school in this directory: intensive and super-intensive tracks, semi-private and private lessons, Saturday-only classes, kids and after-school groups, a total immersion course, and a walking format that holds the lesson out in Condesa and Roma. That range is the reason to come. It also means there is no single L&C experience - there are ten of them, and yours depends on which track you pick and who teaches it. Book with a specific course and a specific instructor in mind, and ask both questions before you pay for a block.
How we know: Research-based. We read the school's own site and program pages, and cross-checked the location, phone and rating against its Google Maps listing as of June 7, 2026. We have not sat in a class here, and we will say so the day we do.
The full story
The menu is the point. L&C's listing carries six kinds of class, a range matched only by LA CALLE in Mérida and beaten by nobody. L&C runs the lot - intensive and super-intensive, semi-private, private, Saturday-only for people who work, group classes for kids, after-school programs, a total immersion track, and online private lessons if you want to start before you land. There is also a walking format that takes the lesson out of the room and into the neighborhood, which is a different proposition from sitting at a table with a book.
The review history is worth reading before you book, because there is a lot of it. 358 reviews is a large enough sample that the 4.7 has absorbed bad weeks as well as good ones. L&C's 4.7 and Habla's 5.0 across 42 reviews in Mérida are not the same kind of number, and the one built on more students is the one that has had more chances to slip.
Ask who is teaching you. A school running this many tracks is not delivering one experience, it is delivering ten, and at that size the instructor matters more than the sign on the door - so get the name, and ask how long they have been there. Two other things to raise directly: the school describes its groups as small but does not publish a cap, so get the number for your course; and it lists an accreditation from the University of Arizona for medical Spanish along with a government endorsement, both of which are its own claims. If either is why you are booking, confirm the details with them rather than with us.
L&C is the pick when your schedule is the hard part - as many formats as any school listed here, and a long enough review history to read before you commit.

Their own feed is the least filtered look at L&C Spanish School you can get — the actual room, the actual teachers, the actual group on a Friday afternoon. Worth a scroll before you email anyone.
FAQ
Is L&C also called Lengua y Cultura?
Yes. The school trades as L&C Spanish School and as Lengua y Cultura, and the website is lenguaycultura.com. Google Maps lists it under L&C Spanish School, so search that if you are looking for the pin.
Does L&C publish its prices?
Not as a single list. Costs are quoted per program, and the range is wide because the programs are - a few hours of private tuition and a multi-week super-intensive are not comparable. Ask for a quote on the specific track you want.
How big are the groups?
The school describes them as small but does not publish a cap. If group size is the thing that decides it for you, ask for the number on your specific course before booking.
Can I take classes on a Saturday?
Yes. Saturday classes are one of the standing formats, which makes L&C one of the more realistic options if you are in Mexico City to work rather than to study.
What Spanish will you actually learn at L&C Spanish School?
Chilango Spanish - the register most of this site is written in, and the one Mexican film, television and music mostly export.
Practically, that means you will come out using the words a chilango uses without thinking: güey as punctuation rather than an insult, neta to check whether someone is serious, no manches when they were not. You will also meet the diminutive doing work that no textbook prepares you for, where ahorita can mean now, in an hour, or never, and the difference is carried entirely by tone.
It travels better than any other Mexican register. Because it is what the country broadcasts, a chilango accent is understood everywhere in Mexico and read as neutral in most of Latin America. The trade-off is that CDMX is the easiest place in the country to never need Spanish at all - Roma and Condesa will happily answer you in English - so the neighborhood you sleep in matters nearly as much as the school you pick.
That is the city, not the classroom. We have not sat in a class at L&C Spanish School, so this is what the Spanish around it sounds like rather than a claim about how it is taught - and the words below are ours, from the dictionary this directory is a side effect of.
