Our take
A private-only school running since 2014, with a main campus in Chimalistac and a second one in Juárez. There are no group classes at all - every lesson is one-on-one, and it can happen at either campus, at your home or office, in a café, or out on a city trip. Published rates start at MXN 500 per hour, which is fair for private tuition here. What you give up is everyone else.
How we know: Research-based. Programs, rates and history come from the school's own site; the address, phone and Google rating were checked against its Maps listing as of June 7, 2026. No visit yet - we will update this when there is one.
The full story
Where it sits is the first thing to weigh. Chimalistac is a small, quiet, cobblestoned pocket in the south of the city, near San Ángel and a long way from the Roma and Condesa corridor where most foreign learners base themselves. That cuts two ways and you should decide which one applies to you. It puts you in a part of Mexico City that has nothing to do with the study-abroad circuit. It also means a daily commute if you are sleeping where most visitors sleep, and traffic here is not a rounding error.
Everything is one-on-one, and the school is direct about it: 100% private lessons, built around whatever you actually need. That is the right structure for a specific goal or an awkward schedule - a work deadline, a level that does not fit any group, an hour that moves every week. They will teach at your home, your office or a café, and they run city trips where the lesson happens while you are out in it. Rates start at MXN 500 an hour, with quotes for longer blocks after a consultation.
You will not meet anyone here, and that is the real cost. A private class cannot produce the accidental practice that makes group schools work - the coffee break where three people at your level fumble through a conversation, the classmate who texts you in Spanish two days later. Some people do not want that and are better off without it. But if you are arriving in Mexico City alone and quietly hoping the school will also be where you meet people, this one will not do that job, and it is better to know now than in week three.
Private-only tuition in Chimalistac, well outside the expat corridor - the right pick if you want a teacher rather than a classroom, and the wrong one if you were hoping for classmates.

FAQ
Are there any group classes?
No. The school runs private lessons only, in person or online. If you specifically want a group, this is the wrong school and there are better fits in this directory.
Where do the classes actually happen?
At the Chimalistac campus, at the Juárez campus, or wherever you are - home, office, a café. They also run city trips, where the lesson takes place while you are out in the city.
What does it cost?
Private lessons start at MXN 500 per hour on their published rates, with quotes given for longer blocks after a consultation. That is mid-range for private tuition in Mexico City.
How far is Chimalistac from Roma or Condesa?
Far enough to plan around. It sits in the south near San Ángel, so budget real travel time in traffic. If a daily commute sounds like too much, ask about the Juárez campus or lessons at your address - both exist precisely for this.
What Spanish will you actually learn at Learn Spanish in Mexico City?
Chilango Spanish - the register most of this site is written in, and the one Mexican film, television and music mostly export.
Practically, that means you will come out using the words a chilango uses without thinking: güey as punctuation rather than an insult, neta to check whether someone is serious, no manches when they were not. You will also meet the diminutive doing work that no textbook prepares you for, where ahorita can mean now, in an hour, or never, and the difference is carried entirely by tone.
It travels better than any other Mexican register. Because it is what the country broadcasts, a chilango accent is understood everywhere in Mexico and read as neutral in most of Latin America. The trade-off is that CDMX is the easiest place in the country to never need Spanish at all - Roma and Condesa will happily answer you in English - so the neighborhood you sleep in matters nearly as much as the school you pick.
That is the city, not the classroom. We have not sat in a class at Learn Spanish in Mexico City, so this is what the Spanish around it sounds like rather than a claim about how it is taught - and the words below are ours, from the dictionary this directory is a side effect of.
