Google 4.9 stars from 86 reviews, as we read it on Jun 7, 2026. That is Google's number and Google's reviewers, not ours — see the listing ↗
LGBTQ+ Google lists this school as LGBTQ+ friendly and a transgender safespace, with a gender-neutral restroom. Those are attributes on the school's own Google listing, not something we verified in the room - but they are the school's own public statement about who is welcome, which is worth more than nothing and less than a visit.
Our take
A Roma Norte school running group classes on four-week cycles, with its rates published openly - MXN 4,600 to 4,900 for a month of regular group classes, 9,800 for the intensive, and private hours sold in blocks. Few schools in this city do that, and it makes Spanish Students Society the easiest one here to budget against. Just check the cycle dates before you book flights, because you start when the next one starts.
How we know: Research-based. Course structure and every price quoted here come from the school's own site; the address, phone, hours and rating were checked against its Google Maps listing as of June 7, 2026. We have not attended a class.
The full story
Start with the prices, because they are the reason this page exists. Regular group classes run MXN 4,900 for four weeks at three sessions a week of 90 minutes, or MXN 4,600 for two sessions a week of two hours. The intensive is MXN 9,800 for four weeks, Monday to Friday, two hours a day, with a cultural activity on Saturdays. Private packages come in blocks: MXN 2,800 for five hours, 5,200 for ten, 7,500 for fifteen - so the private rate falls from 560 an hour to 500 as the block gets bigger. All of it is on their site in public, with no form to fill in first.
That openness is worth more than it sounds. Five schools in this directory publish a rate at all, and this is one of them - everywhere else, an honest comparison starts with a round of emails before you have learned anything. Being able to run the arithmetic yourself, on a Tuesday, without talking to anybody, is a genuine convenience - and it is the thing that lets a page like this one quote a real number instead of a shrug.
Four-week cycles are good for the class and awkward for a traveler. Everyone in the group moves at the same pace, which is most of what makes a group worth joining rather than just cheaper - but it also means set start dates, and if you land in week two you wait or you buy private hours instead. One more practical thing: the school answers to two names. The website and Instagram say Spanish Students Society; Google Maps and Facebook still list it as Somos Spanish School. Same place, same address on Tonalá, so search either.
The easiest school in Mexico City to budget for, because it tells you the price before you ask - group classes on four-week cycles in Roma Norte.

FAQ
Is this the same school as Somos Spanish School?
Yes. The website and Instagram use Spanish Students Society; Google Maps and Facebook still carry the Somos Spanish School name. It is one school at Tonalá 107 in Roma Norte - search either name and you will land on the same pin.
What does a month of group classes cost?
MXN 4,900 for four weeks at three sessions a week of 90 minutes, or MXN 4,600 for two sessions a week of two hours. The four-week intensive is MXN 9,800. These are the school's own published rates.
Can I start on any Monday?
No. Classes run on four-week cycles with set start dates, so check the next one before you book travel. If your dates are fixed and the cycle does not line up, private hours are the fallback.
Do they teach online?
Yes, private lessons are available online. The group classes and the intensive are the in-person offer at the Roma Norte address.
What Spanish will you actually learn at Spanish Students Society?
Chilango Spanish - the register most of this site is written in, and the one Mexican film, television and music mostly export.
Practically, that means you will come out using the words a chilango uses without thinking: güey as punctuation rather than an insult, neta to check whether someone is serious, no manches when they were not. You will also meet the diminutive doing work that no textbook prepares you for, where ahorita can mean now, in an hour, or never, and the difference is carried entirely by tone.
It travels better than any other Mexican register. Because it is what the country broadcasts, a chilango accent is understood everywhere in Mexico and read as neutral in most of Latin America. The trade-off is that CDMX is the easiest place in the country to never need Spanish at all - Roma and Condesa will happily answer you in English - so the neighborhood you sleep in matters nearly as much as the school you pick.
That is the city, not the classroom. We have not sat in a class at Spanish Students Society, so this is what the Spanish around it sounds like rather than a claim about how it is taught - and the words below are ours, from the dictionary this directory is a side effect of.
Slang you'll pick up there
